Our first day in Alaska!!! The plan for today is to go kayaking, but as you can tell by the first picture things weren't looking too good for us.

I'm not used to seeing fog that is this thick. You can't even see the water which is just over that railing.

So, now we have to wait for the fog to burn off. Jamie took us to a local waffle house. They have the best omelet waffle I have ever had!!! If your ever in Juneau I strongly recommend you stop by.

The Alaskan Fudge Company. After discovering this place we had to visit it daily. It was so cool to watch them make the fudge. We were able to spend enough time in here that the fog was all gone by the time we left. Doesn't that just make your mouth water?

Yeah! It's finally time to get in the water! Everyone told me NOT to wear my wetsuit but I HATE cold water!!!! So I went ahead and wore it anyway. Luckily we didn't have to actually get in the water but a little water got into the kayak. And no, I am not wearing a diaper, it is the spray skirt that keeps most of the water out of the kayak. I just didn't want it hanging.

My little sister Jamie (the reason we went to Alaska). Isn't she cute?!?

And there is my mommy. Isn't she cute too?
I did get warm enough that I had to unzip the top half of my wetsuit, but the bottom half was keeping me safe from intruding waters. This was taken far from shore! I had to be very careful NOT to drop my camera in the water. I didn't even dare tell Stewart I took the camera with me in to the open waters. He knows my luck with the ocean.

This place was SO beautiful!! Just above all the green trees, is the
Mendenhall Glacier (at the base of the big mountain). You can only see a sliver of it but it is pretty big.
Our goal was to kayak for a few hours, but I started off with my mom in the double kayak and she was steering. Well she was supposed to be steering. Lets just say she can't walk and chew gum at the same time. So we headed to a remote island so we could kick her out of the drivers seat. The island was so beautiful we ended up staying for about an hour. It looked like no one had ever been on it before. There were TONS of sea shells. We even found a cute little sea urchin thingy. Yummy.
The spray skirt came in handy for other things as well. Just look at all of the sea shells.
I don't know if you can see it, but behind that boat is some crazy person wake boarding. Even with a full wet suit on, I wouldn't willingly go into that fridgid water.
Cute!

Recognize this pose?
I just love all of the snow capped mountains in the background.

I really wished we could have gone back to that island. It was so nice to be in a place where no one else was. We were told it was about 1 1/2 miles from the dock where we launched. Maybe a little more.

See what I mean by a ton of sea shells. And they were big too!
Kaitlyn and Hailey didn't believe me when I said I found sea shells as big as my face. Well at least they were as big as Jamie's face.
Look! It's the same type of trap that is used on Deadliest Catch. For those who don't know what that is, it's a show on The Discovery Channel.

Yeah! I am finally in my own kayak!

Ha ha suckers! But at least this time Jamie is in the back, which means she is in charge of
steering. Needless to say we got back to the dock a lot quicker because we didn't
zig-
zag the entire way. Don't worry mom, I love you!

Wow, I am soo jealous. It looks so beautiful. Way to go Mom, putting up with the "backseat driver".
And don't let Jen fool you, it would be way too cold for her.
